The MBTA continues adapting with new rider travel patterns as commuters increasingly shift back into in-person work or school. If you are unsure about current travel conditions, it’s always helpful to visit the MBTA online, and search day-of-recommendations in their trip planning feature. You can also review broader system-wide updates in the Spring 2023 Services Changes.
-
Commuter Rail Flex Pass: In spring 2022, the MBTA made the 5-day Flex Pass on the Commuter Rail a permanent program in their fare structure. The Flex Pass, available for purchase on the mTicket app, is good for five round trip tickets, does not have to be used on consecutive days and is valid for up to 30 days after purchase. In addition, these are priced 10% cheaper than buying five round trip tickets on separate days.
- New Medford Branch Open: Medford Green Line Station (on the D Branch), officially opened December 2022. Now commuters traveling from Medford will have a one-seat, direct ride to Longwood Station. Further information can be found on MassDOT’s GLX (Green Line Extension) website.
Longwood Shuttle
- Longwood Collective (formerly MASCO) runs an extensive shuttle network serving the Longwood neighborhood. Apart from the M2 shuttle to Cambridge, all shuttles are free for Longwood Collective member communities. Shuttles are trackable online or on the TransLoc app. Stay up to date on general Longwood Collective news via Instagram and Twitter.
